Toronto PanAm champions Gallay & Klug advance to SWATCH Finals "elite eight"

Toronto, Canada, September 16, 2016 - Ana Gallay and Georgina Klug advanced to the quarter-finals of the SWATCH FIVB World Tour Finals here mid-day Friday as the Argentina pair eliminated Italians Laura Giombini and Marta Menegatti from the competition on Polson Pier.

With their 2-1 (22-20, 19-21, 15-11) win in 54 minutes over Giombini and Menegatti, Gallay and Klug will played Talita Antunes and Larissa Franca in the quarter-finals Friday afternoon.

Ana Gallay - “We are happy to be in the quarterfinals.  We play against one of the best teams in the world but we knew if we got to the quarterfinals all the teams are the top teams in the world.  We hope we can play our best against them and who knows.”

Georgina Klug - “In this moment of the year you have to focus on how important this is.  We are proud of our team to be here and that gave us energy because we are really tired.  It’s been a really, really long season, especially for the last team to qualify for Rio.”

Marta Menegatti - “Our sideout was a little bit down.  Maybe because we are a new team, but we did fight back.  I want to thank Laura because she played with a physical problem.  We tried to enjoy and we fought like warriors today, in the end we lost but we are satisfied.”
