Sochi, Russia, May 8, 2016 – Spanish duo Liliana Fernandez and Elsa Baquerizo are riding high into the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Sochi Open final, after eliminating Marta Menegatti and Viktoria Orsi Toth of Italy from gold medal contention at Sport Inn on Saturday.
Lili/Elsa’s last semifinal appearance was two seasons ago at the Long Beach Grand Slam, where they finished fourth. This season, the Spanish pair’s highest finish is ninth, but now they have underlined their World Tour final four comeback when they endured a tough straight-set semifinal match against Menegatti/Orsi Toth 2-0 (21-19, 21-19).
Lili/Elsa have certainly been on a great adventure at the Sochi Open. The Spanish girls have already changed the plot of the tournament with their first final appearance this season.
Their fate in the tournament will be decided when they face Switzerland’s Joana Heidrich and Nadine Zumkehr in the gold medal match, while Menegatti/Orsi Toth will face Germany’s Katrin Holtwick and Ilka Semler in the bronze medal match.
