Toronto, Canada, September 16,, 2016 - Isabelle Forrer and Anouk Verge-Depre of Switzerland defeated Chantal Laboureur and Julia Sude of Germany 2-0 (21-16, 21-18) in 34 minutes here Friday to advance to he semi-finals at the SWATCH FIVB World Tour Finals.
The win was the Swiss' four victory in six FIVB World Tour meetings with Laboureur and Sude with Forrer and Verge-Depre winning three of the four matches during the 2015-2016 season.
Julia Sude - “We had a lot of ups and downs this season emotionally. Especially because we didn’t qualify for the Olympics even though we had enough points. But it was good to make it to the World Tour finals, and it’s a good reward. After a few days of rest we will talk about the next season and the next Olympics cycle.”
Isabelle Forrer - “We put more pressure on them with our serve and our passing and setting was really good in the wind, I think that was the big difference. We kept them from really aggressive finishes. As we like to say, we played point by point.”
Anouk Verge-Depre - “I think it was a really good game in sideout and service, although for me I had a bad game serving. Tactically we followed our plan and it worked out. We want to go for the win no matter who is on the other side. We want to enjoy the game in this beautiful stadium with this crowd.”
