Montrrey, Mexico, March 19, 2017 – The coaches of the competing teams that begin their participation at the U19 Boys’ Pan American Cup shared their impressions before the beginning of the tournament that serves off on Monday at the “Nuevo Leon Gym”.
After the preliminary inquiries and the introduction of the coaches at the technical meeting these were their statements:
Ivan Villarreal (Chile): “Since the Youth South American championship finished last October in Lima, we knew that we had the chance to play the U19 Pan American Cup that gives one ticket to the World Championship in Bahrain, so we began this process in order to look for that ticket.”
Felipe Osorio (Colombia): “We have been preparing, previously for the South American championship that was last year, and this year we began to prepare last January and look for a chance to qualify to the world championship. This is the first time we participate at this category. We expect to increase our level so we have to work hard with our age group teams.”
Juan Acuna (Costa Rica): “I think all the teams have arrived in here with the idea of qualifying to the World Championship. It will be tough. Mexico has a high level. We have to play Nicaragua, Jamaica and Dominican Republic, but there is also Puerto Rico which is also a high level team. We expect to look for a chance to the quarterfinals.”
Loren Rodriguez: (Dominican Republic): “We came here to get that qualification. Our federation and the parents of the boys involved with this project have great expectations about them who are the future of our country. We hope to get that ticket.”
Steve Davis (Jamaica): “Our expectations are high because we are going to give our best shot. What we´ve noticed is that we have come to play against teams that have more preparation time, because we have trained on the weekends, but we are fighters, we are warriors, we are Jamaicans and we are going to give our best shot.”
Gabriela Alarcon (Mexico): “This is my second cycle, four years working with the U19 unit. We worked together for the Norceca Championship last year and we returned with 85 percent of the boys and we expect to have a very good cup participation.”
Omar Hernandez (Nicaragua): “We faced some issues in order to prepare, but the team has prepared for this event, our first one. The boys have a great illusion about competing here. We have to look forward and to show the best of us.”
Edwin Jimenez (Peru): “We feel such a great joy for being here at this cup and we expect to give our best to win our matches, so we have to do that. We appreciate the efforts by our former President Luis Linares for supporting male volleyball and also Diana Gonzales who is now in charge of our federation”.
Juan Albarran (Puerto Rico): “Our expectations are to clinch a berth to the World Championship in Bahrain. We have trained very hard and there is our future is to get that qualification to the world championship. We are very excited to be here and look for that chance to qualify.”
