Clubs set to discover path to Club World Championship glory

 
Lausanne, Switzerland, September 19, 2017 – The eight teams that will compete in the Poland 2017, FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship will find out who they will face in the pool stages when the draw is made at the Polsat television studios in Warsaw at 16.30 today.

Defending champions Sada Cruzeiro Volei will try to defend the title they won in Betim in 2016, while Zenit Kazan will aim to improve on their second place finish. 

The tournament will take place in Lodz, Opole and Krakow from December 11-17 and will bring the curtain down on another spectacular year for volleyball across the globe.

Teams will be split into two pools of four with teams playing each other in a round-robin system in the cities of Lodz and Opole. The top two teams from each pool will progress to the semifinals and finals to be played in Krakow.

Sada Cruzeiro qualified as CSV Champions League winners, while Kazan won the CEV version. Asian champions Sarmayeh Bank Tehran VC are the other continental champions to qualify and Polish champions ZAKSA Kedzierzyn-Kozle represent the host nation. 


Lube Civitanova from Italy, and Argentinian team Club Ciudad de Bolivar, who finished fourth in 2016, have qualified as champions of the highest ranked nation not yet qualified.

There are two wild card sides, Polish outfit SKRA Belchatow and Shanghai Volleyball Club from China.


Poland will be the fourth country to host the FIVB's flagship club tournament. They have previously hosted the 2014 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship and the Mazury 2013, FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championship, both of which were spectacular successes.
